Boooooooth!

As one could no doubt tell, this page is a summary of what KGB has done for Booth, what KGB is doing for Booth, and perhaps even what KGB will be doing for Booth. If you want to know just what the Hell booth is, go here.

In the past, KGB's Booths were, by tradition, a Russian theme. We have done Peter and the Wolf, the Mir Space Station, and Baba Yaga's Hut. In our first ten years, we won 1st place twice, so we have a decent track record. Though we have had some Booths we'd rather forget about, we are, for the most part, proud of our Booth heritage.

In more recent times, KGB has opted for booths that are less Russian themed and more nerdy, in reflection of the fact that we're really quite nerdy. This has led to booths such as a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea booth, an Atlantis booth, and a Phantom TollBooth. KGB hasn't been as successful in terms of awards as of late due to an influx of independent orgs with much larger budgets and number of people, but that has not stopped us from winning the "Most Heart" award that we made in our parents' basement out of cardboard and pipe cleaners for the past five years running.

Below we have some information about past booths. If you have better pictures of the booths than we do or if you have information about any of the booths missing from our compendium, let us know at exec@cmukgb.org.

  • Booth 2012 - A Giant TV

Currently in the neonatal booth stages!

  • Booth 2010 - Atlantis

    REPORT CLASSIFIED

  • Booth 2009 - KGB goes 20,000 leagues under the sea

    REPORT CLASSIFIED

  • Booth 2002 - Snegurochka

Named after the Russian for "snow maiden", this booth is in the form of a castle. Read the story behind this Booth (written by John McCall). Despite breaking new ground in many areas and looking damn fine (if I do say so myself), this Booth did not place. This year's Booth Cabal was lead by Sean "Teki" Dobbs, and the Booth was designed by Mym Johnson. (Note: There Is No KGB Booth Cabal)

  • Booth 2001 - Bitterness

Facing a series of financial and personnel crisises, including deep bitterness from last year's Booth season, KGB opted to not participate in Booth this year. However, KGB marshalled its resources, and before long all eyes turned toward the next year...

  • Booth 2000 - Sputnik

Named in a playful take-off of the Carnival theme "Around the World", this Booth was chaired by Dan Hook. The last iteration of the venerable KGB Barn, this Booth took fourth place in that years' competition. Note that the winning Booth was made mostly out of papier-mache and featured a stunning attention to detail that brought us such crowd-pleasers as penguins living in Alaska. (The Bitter Bus would like to deny all responsibility for the preceeding comment)

  • Booth 1999 - The Rats of NIMH

Our 1999 Booth, The Rats of NIMH won Second...err... Third Place... (Carnival Committee couldn't make up their minds). It was co-chaired by Daisy Church and Karen Adams.

  • Booth 1998 - Baba Yaga's Hut

Baba Yaga's Hut, aka Booth Obsession '98, won us the first place trophy for the second time in KGB's illustrious booth career, and was a drawn-out, two year plan. It was chaired (and some say spiritually possessed) by Bryan Nagy.

  • Booth 1996 - Kremlin

I don't know much about this Booth. There are a great deal of pictures. If you know much about this booth, please email exec@cmukgb.org and tell us about it.

  • Booth 1995 - Peter and the Wolf

KGB's 1995 Booth was chaired by Amy McGovern, but mostly designed by Eric Moore and Matt Andrews. The carnival theme that year was Cartoons, and we did Peter and the Wolf. The game was originally intended to be a laser -based auto scoring shoot the wolf type thing, but the electronics never got finished. So what ended up happening was that we used the laser and visually determined hits on the targets. We also went over time on building, and so ended up being disqualified from competition, even though we still finished and operated the booth.

  • Booth 1994 - The Mir Space Station

Again, I am at a loss. Again, pictures. If you know much about this booth (like why we chose to represent a space station as a gigantic tank...) please email exec@cmukgb.org and tell us about it.

  • Booth 1993 - Failure

    Eeyore writes:
What happened this year was that the Booth Committee, (led by Eric Moore, I believe) put up posters all over campus declaring the return of the booth committee and were fined for violations of the postering policy. No actual booth was accomplished.

  • Booth 1992 - Alladin

Actually, Alladin was Fringe's Booth in 1992. But from what I hear, our Booth Builders went to help them, since KGB didn't do a Booth. Hopefully, Fringe won. Who knows?

  • Booth 1991 - The Hunt for Red October

Playfully known as "The Hunt for Red Fucked-over", this years Booth is one of the least favorite ones. We think it came in close to dead last (except we beat a couple groups who wrote "Booth" on a cardboard box.) Booth chairs were Eeyore (who dropped out in favor of the Presidency in the spring) and Tom Strong. Whoops. Coincidentally, this was the year KGB dissolved it's Booth Committee (an act that didn't last).

  • Booth 1990 - Topple The Czar

This Booth came in second to Phi Kap (Yes, we beat all the other fraternities in points), and beat everything else on the midway. They wouldn't give us the second place fraternity trophy, so we had to settle for first place independent. Official booth chair was Andrew Shurak, who was usurped by Steve Gifford and Tom Strong.

  • Booth 1989 - Land the Plane in Red Square

This Booth won the Chairman's Choice award. The booth chair who led us to victory was Barry Brummit (many thanks to former KGB president Michael Gelman for providing us with this information). The link is just pictures...
